We have no intention to relocate our embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied Jerusalem, the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry announced yesterday.

Speaking at a press conference, the ministry’s spokesperson, Meles Alem, stressed that US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem applies to “the United States alone”.

“We, as part of the African Union, endorse the two-state solution,” Alem added.

On Wednesday, the US President Donald Trump announced his decision to formally recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and plans to move the US embassy to the city.

World leaders, from Europe to the Middle East to Australia, slammed the decision as a “unilateral step warning it would “heightened tensions or even spread violence across the Middle East”.
